Huge Congratulations to Kay

Kay has been with Bridgend for 40 Years Today!!!

Kay our Senior Administrator at the Kilmarnock Branch started with Bridgend, Irvine in 1983 as part of the Youth Opportunity Programme before being taken on full time.

Speaking to Kay today we asked her how her time has been and how things have changed.

“I came straight from school on a YOP scheme. I was interviewed and had to do a test involving mental arithmetic – no using a calculator! I started as an Office Junior at the Irvine Branch – doing the dishes, hoovering and making mince for Rebel the guard dog! I learned car sales admin and accounts and I had to type everything up on an old-fashioned manual typewriter. If you wanted a copy of something you used carbon paper – no such thing as a photocopier. We then moved on to electric typewriters and got a fax machine!

I was at Irvine for 30 years and moved to Kilmarnock in January 2014 to oversee the sales administration. I am still at Kilmarnock and oversee a team of 3 in admin here.

My biggest change was moving to Kilmarnock from Irvine after 30 years in the same branch. Seeing the development and growth of the business has been great.

It doesn’t feel like 40 years! Where has the time gone? From old fashioned typewriters to computers – times have totally changed”
