KICKSTART - 1 YEAR LATER

A year ago Bridgend were delighted to partner up and take part in the Kickstart Scheme and have great joy in introducing some of our success stories.

Gillian has been with the company 1 year now having started off on the Kickstart scheme for 6 months then got a full-time permanent position and is now going through her apprenticeship for vehicle technician.

We caught up with Gillian to see how the last year has been.
Gillian you first came to our Kilmarnock Branch to interview for an admin role!
“I know!”
How did you find going into the mechanical workshop at first?
“It was a bit overwhelming. It’s bigger than I was used to and a there were a lot of people. However, I have got on really well and made friends”

What is the best thing about being in the workshop?
“The encouragement! It’s nice to be pushed as far as I can go. Kev & John are really encouraging and supportive. Everybody helps you – you’re never stuck or in a situation. I would recommend a career in the workshop if you’re interested. You really need to have an interest in it as it’s a hard going job and if you’re not interested, you’d just walk away.
My advice to anyone starting in the mechanical workshop is definitely to be focused, think about things and be prepared”
