Advice On
Buying A Car
Dodgy deals and "Del-Boy"
dealers are fast becoming a thing of the past. Car
dealers are bound ny numerous laws and regulations that
ensure that everything
is "honest". You are protected by the Sale
Of Goods Act 1979, which means that
goods must meet an acceptable standard*. Good dealers
are members of a trade
assocation such as SMTA (you can find their logo on
our homepage) and are bound
by their code of conduct.
* acceptable standard = satisfactory quality bearing
in mind the age, cost and
how it was described.
It is a good idea to get a statement on the cars condition
from the dealer once
you have purchased.
The number one priority when choosing a new car is its
suitability for your
needs. It is easy to be distracted by the many flash
cars on offer. The
salesperson may intially seem like he is asking a lot
of questions but he is
simply trying to qualify your information so that you
can get the best deal on a
car that best suits you. It is also a good idea to ask
lots of questions
yourself and get a good all round knowledge of the product
you are buying. This
exchange of information will ensure that you get the
right deal.
We know it is important to get the right car at the
right price. 85% of our
customers return within 5 years. We are not interested
in trying to "trick" you
or get you into a car that's not quite right but rather
make the customer happy
with the deal and have them be one of the huge percentage
of customers who
return to us. If we get it right for you, you may well
recommend us to friends
and family and that's the business we like and not the
quick buck.
After all the talking's done you may want to test drive
the car you have chosen.
This is no problem. The test drive is in 2 parts, firstly
the salesperson will
drive the car just to show you all the features and
to make you feel comfortable
in it. It is also a good idea to get a passengers perspective
as well as a
drivers. In the second part of the test drive you will
get the chance to drive
the car to see how it feels. In the test drive as with
as your inspection of the
car, it is a good idea to let your senses be your guide.
How does is look? How
does the engine sound? Are there any funny smells? and
most of all how does it
feel?
