Advice On Buying A Car

Dodgy deals and "Del-Boy" dealers are fast becoming a thing of the past. Car
dealers are bound ny numerous laws and regulations that ensure that everything
is "honest". You are protected by the Sale Of Goods Act 1979, which means that
goods must meet an acceptable standard*. Good dealers are members of a trade
assocation such as SMTA (you can find their logo on our homepage) and are bound
by their code of conduct.
* acceptable standard = satisfactory quality bearing in mind the age, cost and
how it was described.
It is a good idea to get a statement on the cars condition from the dealer once
you have purchased.
The number one priority when choosing a new car is its suitability for your
needs. It is easy to be distracted by the many flash cars on offer. The
salesperson may intially seem like he is asking a lot of questions but he is
simply trying to qualify your information so that you can get the best deal on a
car that best suits you. It is also a good idea to ask lots of questions
yourself and get a good all round knowledge of the product you are buying. This
exchange of information will ensure that you get the right deal.
We know it is important to get the right car at the right price. 85% of our
customers return within 5 years. We are not interested in trying to "trick" you
or get you into a car that's not quite right but rather make the customer happy
with the deal and have them be one of the huge percentage of customers who
return to us. If we get it right for you, you may well recommend us to friends
and family and that's the business we like and not the quick buck.
After all the talking's done you may want to test drive the car you have chosen.
This is no problem. The test drive is in 2 parts, firstly the salesperson will
drive the car just to show you all the features and to make you feel comfortable
in it. It is also a good idea to get a passengers perspective as well as a
drivers. In the second part of the test drive you will get the chance to drive
the car to see how it feels. In the test drive as with as your inspection of the
car, it is a good idea to let your senses be your guide. How does is look? How
does the engine sound? Are there any funny smells? and most of all how does it
feel?

Documents You Will Need

In order to comply with all regulations and legislation there are certain
documents you must supply before delivery of your new car. It is helpful to have
all these when ordering your chosen car:
1) PAYMENT

We accept cash, Bankers Draft, cheque, debit or credit card. When paying by
credit card please note we have a 1.5% service charge. There is no charge for
Switch or Delta. Please also note that personal cheques take minimum 5 working
days to clear.

2) ID

We must see your driving licence showing your current address, both photocard
and paper. If your driving licence is not in your current address, you must
provide another ID, for example; utility bill (last 3 months), credit
card/bank/mortgage statement, council tax letter.

3) FINANCE

If you are undertaking a finance agreement we will need to provide 2 proofs of
ID to the finance company, at least 48 hours before you collect your car. Your
driving licence must be authenticated under a UV light and a certificate of
authenticity attached. In addition the finance company will ask for a
credit/debit card, passport or work ID., or 2 of the ids outlined in the section
above. They MAY also request further proof of earnings or employment.

4) BANK DETAILS

We will need your account number and sort code if you wish to undertake a
finance agreement. These can often be found on your cheque book.

5) INSURANCE AND REGISTRATION DOCUMENTS

We will need an ORIGINAL certificate of insurance to tax your car, at least 24 hours before delivery. If you are undertaking a finance agreement you must have fully comprehensive insurance. For a cherished number transfer we will require the retention certificate and all other relevant documents.

We will need your service book and/or relevant receipts for servicing or major mechanical work, the vehicle's log book (V5) and MOT certificate. If you have lost your V5 you can get a duplicate within 3 working days by phoning DVLA. If you have lost your V5 and any of your details have changed this will take 10 days and a visit to your local DVLA office.
